Our Relief Society Presidency recently received a letter asking for our help informing families that might be eligible to participate in an exciting national research project. The National Children's Study, which is led in our community by Utah State, is currently enrolling women who are pregnant or likely to become pregnant in the near future in a study to help understand how children's health is impacted by the environments where they live, learn and play. Cache County is one of 100 locations, involving 100,000 families nation-wide. A study of this kind and on this scale has never been done before. It will follow pregnant women and then their newborns for 21 years and will collect valuable data that will identify exposures in early life that affect people during childhood and the rest of their lives. Health professionals and others who work with children will use the results to develop new ways to prevent health problems and possibly new treatments for disease.
You may have already heard about this study on the radio, at your doctor's office or from others. It is expected to dramatically increase knowledge of children.
